Chelsea has dismissed Liam Rosenior after a short and turbulent tenure that lasted just 106 days, bringing an abrupt end to a project that was initially seen as a long-term appointment. The decision follows a string of disappointing performances, culminating in a heavy defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion that extended the club’s losing streak and left them struggling to stay in contention for European qualification. Despite arriving with a multi-year contract and backing from the ownership, Rosenior was unable to steady the team during a crucial phase of the season.

Poor results seal fate

The club’s form under Rosenior deteriorated rapidly, with five consecutive league defeats without scoring marking their worst such run in more than a century. Chelsea slipped to seventh place in the standings, falling behind rivals like Liverpool FC in the race for Champions League spots. While there were some positives in cup competitions, including progression in the FA Cup, the overall inconsistency in the league proved decisive in the club’s decision to make a change.

Club looks for stability

In an official statement, Chelsea acknowledged Rosenior’s professionalism but admitted that performances had fallen below expectations. The club reiterated its intent to find stability in the managerial position, a goal that has remained elusive in recent seasons. Names such as Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Edin Terzic are reportedly under consideration as potential replacements as the club evaluates its next move.

Interim charge and immediate focus

Assistant coach Calum McFarlane has been placed in interim charge for the remainder of the season, with the immediate task of stabilising performances. His first major test will come in the FA Cup clash against Leeds United at Wembley, a match that could still offer Chelsea a route to silverware in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
