Indian football’s commercial landscape is heading into a defining phase as the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) evaluates multi-crore bids for the Indian Super League (ISL) and other domestic competitions. With offers crossing the ₹2,000 crore mark, the tender represents more than just a broadcast deal; it signals a structural reset after the end of the long-standing partnership with Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL).

The new cycle is expected to reshape how the league is packaged, distributed, and monetised, while also determining the financial stability of clubs and the federation. M. Satyanarayan, the AIFF’s Deputy Secretary General, told Sportstar, “Genius Sports has bid for over 2100 crores over 20 seasons, while Capri Sports has bid between 150 and 160 crores.” He also added, “We are very thankful to all clubs and the AIFF Executive Committee because they have backed our teams, and we are happy that people are still interested in Indian football.”

Big-money bids underline growing commercial appetite

The bidding process has attracted significant attention, with Genius Sports emerging as the frontrunner through a massive bid exceeding ₹2,100 crore for a long-term cycle. In comparison, FanCode has submitted a lower but competitive bid, reflecting a clear divide in valuation strategies.

Meanwhile, Capri Sports stands as the sole bidder for the women’s competitions, highlighting both opportunity and a lack of depth in that segment. The scale of these offers indicates renewed investor confidence in Indian football, especially after a turbulent period marked by uncertainty over league operations and governance.

New structure aims to stabilise clubs and modernise the ecosystem

Unlike the previous model, the AIFF is moving toward a restructured commercial framework that gives it greater control over rights and revenue distribution. Clubs are expected to receive a larger share of the income, addressing long-standing concerns around financial sustainability.

In a statement, AIFF said, “The bid evaluation report will be placed before the AIFF Executive Committee, which convenes its meeting on Sunday, March 29, 2026; a decision is expected on the same day.”

Additionally, the potential entry of a global data-driven company like Genius Sports could introduce advanced analytics, improved fan engagement, and more sophisticated broadcast solutions. This shift reflects a broader ambition to align Indian football with global best practices while building a more resilient and commercially viable ecosystem.
