The pitch, made of black soil, should offer consistent bounce and grip, aiding stroke play as the match progresses. Historically, the Chennai Super Kings held a clear advantage over the Kolkata Knight Riders with a 20-11 head-to-head record. However, recent encounters suggest a more balanced rivalry, with both sides evenly matched at 3-3 since 2022, setting up a closely contested clash.

Here are five key players who can impress today

Sanju Samson

The wicket-keeper batter has had his best outing so far in the last game and as he has shown resilience and continuity once getting a strong run. His form is going to be a key aspect for the Chennai Super Kings.

Sunil Narine

The Windies player has one of the finest bowling records on the Chennai pitch. His spin is going to be one of the keys for KKR, the bowling has not clicked well for the purple and gold army.

Varun Chakravarthy

After missing two matches, the Chennai boy is ready to shine again for KKR, the Indian spinner has not had a great rhythm since the World Cup. But having two quality spinners in the team can give a big boost to KKR.

Jamie Overton

Jamie Overton has done really well from the first match, in the first match he impressed with the ball and in the last match he picked 4 crucial wickets conceding only 18 runs. His help will be crucial for the team.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Though he has not been in good rhythm since the first match of this season, his contribution is still going to be important for the Chennai Super Kings.

Pitch report

A high-scoring clash is expected at MA Chidambaram Stadium, where a hard, well-rolled pitch is set to favour batters. With boundary dimensions of 63m, 70m, and 79m, stroke play, especially the square of the wicket, could be key. Unlike its traditional spin-friendly nature, Chepauk has offered more bounce and carry this season, resulting in multiple 200-plus totals. Spinners have struggled, shifting focus to pacers relying on variations. With power-hitters like Sanju Samson and Finn Allen, the match could turn into a six-hitting spectacle.
