During the IPL 2026 encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, fans quickly noticed something unusual: KKR players took the field wearing black armbands. The subtle yet striking gesture led to widespread curiosity, with many wondering about the reason behind it. The black armbands were worn as a tribute to a person closely associated with the KKR franchise who recently passed away. Such gestures are deeply rooted in cricketing tradition, symbolising grief, respect, and remembrance. By wearing the armbands, the team collectively acknowledged the loss and paid homage before stepping into a high-stakes match.
This act highlighted the emotional bond within the squad and the extended support system surrounding the franchise. It was a reminder that cricket, beyond its competitive edge, remains deeply human.
