The Jadavpur University (JU) has postponed its scheduled executive council meeting following objections reportedly raised by the Governor's office ahead of the swearing-in of the new BJP government in West Bengal.
According to a university official, the Governor's office reportedly contacted vice-chancellor (VC) Chiranjib Bhattacharjee on Wednesday evening and advised against holding the meeting during the political transition period.

Later that evening, at around 7.40 pm, the university issued an official notice stating that the executive council meeting scheduled for May 8 was "postponed due to some unavoidable circumstances".
VC cites 'transition period'
Speaking on the development, VC Bhattacharjee said that they had decided not to hold the meeting during the transition period.
When asked whether the decision was influenced by communication from the Governor's office, he declined to comment further.
The executive council meeting was reportedly expected to discuss several academic matters, including university syllabi and postgraduate programmes.
Academic matters left pending
Members of the university community expressed concern over the postponement of the meeting, which is considered one of the institution's key decision-making forums.

A council member reportedly questioned the reason behind delaying academic discussions because of the government formation process.
The university has reportedly not yet announced a revised date for the executive council meeting.
