International Women’s Day: Medinipur Medical College launches helplines for women’s safety

A Women’s Day programme at Medinipur Medical College launched two helpline numbers to support women facing abuse and raise awareness about safety and legal assistance.

A novel initiative was undertaken at Medinipur Medical College and Hospital on the occasion of International Women's Day. A special program was organized in the hospital premises on Monday. The event was arranged by the One Stop Centre of the state government's Social Welfare Department. This program was primarily organized to enhance women's safety and awareness.

Two helpline numbers introduced

According to administrative sources, two new helpline numbers have been launched. Women can call these designated helpline numbers for assistance in any emergency situation. The numbers are — 9046097197 and 7908082838.

The main objective of the One Stop Centre of the state government's Social Welfare Department is to stand by women who are victims of physical, sexual, mental and economic abuse. At the same time, it provides them with necessary legal and psychological support. Abused women can easily come here and receive counseling and assistance.

Additional District Magistrate Navneet Mittal was the chief guest at the day's program. Also present were District Panchayat Executive Officer Shanti Tudu and Child Protection Officer Sandip Das. They stated that everyone needs to be aware to prevent atrocities against women. The government is always beside the common people in this work.

One Stop Centre Officer Parmita Bakshi Bhattacharya said, "We are always there regarding women's safety and security. If any woman becomes a victim of physical, mental or any other type of abuse, she should fearlessly contact us. Violence against women cannot be tolerated in any way."
