French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday urged diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions following the latest escalation involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Speaking after chairing an emergency defence council meeting at the Élysée Palace, Macron said diplomacy must take priority as the conflict risks widening across the region.
As per an NDTV report, The French leader clarified that France had not been informed in advance about the US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and had no role in the military operation.
“France was neither warned of nor involved in the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, just like all the other countries in the region and our allies,” Macron said during the defence council meeting.
He added that the current situation demands urgent diplomatic initiatives to prevent further escalation.
“I hope we can take all necessary initiatives so that diplomacy prevails,” Macron said.
The emergency meeting was convened to assess the rapidly evolving security situation in West Asia and discuss the implications of the latest military actions involving the United States, Israel and Iran. France has repeatedly called for restraint in the region, warning that a wider conflict could threaten regional stability and global security.
