Agnivesh Agarwal, the eldest son of Vedanta's chairman and mining tycoon Anil Agarwal, died suddenly of a cardiac arrest in the US. He was 49 years old. His death occurred after what his father described as a “medical setback” while he was recovering from injuries sustained in a skiing accident. In an emotional post, the news was shared by Anil Agarwal on X.
Anil Agarwal, in an emotional post on X, said that it was “the darkest day” of his life. He wrote, “My beloved son, Agnivesh, left us far too soon. He was just 49 years old, healthy, full of life, and dreams. Following a skiing accident in the US, he was recovering well in Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. We believed the worst was behind us. But fate had other plans, and a sudden cardiac arrest snatched our son away from us.”

Who was Agnivesh Agarwal?
Agnivesh was born on June 3, 1976, in Patna, Bihar. His early life was in Patna before shifting to educational institutes. Agnivesh went to Mayo College in Ajmer, Rajasthan, one of the country’s well-known boarding schools. His family describes that during his childhood, Agnivesh was brought up with traits of discipline and responsibility. This served as an aid to his profession.
Through the years, Agnivesh earned himself a sound reputation as a business leader. He ventured into the metal and resources sector with his own company, Fujairah Gold, and subsequently became Chairman at Hindustan Zinc, a cornerstone company in the Vedanta group. He has a significant affiliation with the company that put him in high leadership positions at such a young age.
While paying tribute to Agnivesh, Anil Agarwal referred to his son as someone with multi-faceted personality traits. Agnivesh was not only a business personality; he was also someone who loved sports. He was even a musician. According to his father, Agnivesh was not only his son, but he was also like a very close friend and a source of pride.
Agnivesh was at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, recovering from injuries following a skiing accident. Despite an initial recovery and the best efforts of doctors treating him, he experienced a sudden cardiac arrest and could not be resuscitated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses condolences
PM Modi took to his X, extending his condolences, writing, “The untimely passing of Shri Agnivesh Agarwal is deeply shocking and saddening. The depth of your grief is evident in this touching tribute. Praying that you and your family find continued strength and courage. Om Shanti.”

Union minister Kiren Rijiju wrote, “Me & my wife are heartbroken by the tragic demise of your charismatic son Agnivesh. Anil Ji, I'm sending our deepest condolences and offering heartfelt prayers May god provide you and family the strength to bear this unimaginable loss.”
Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also expressed grief, writing, “Saddened to learn about the demise of your beloved son, Agnivesh. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and admirers. May the departed soul attain Sadgati. May God grant immense strength to the family to bear this irreparable loss. Om Shanti.”
