A new report has shed light on how much Meta pays its employees, with figures showing particularly high salaries for artificial intelligence (AI) and engineering roles. According to Business Insider, the data is based on an analysis of more than 5,800 H-1B and other work visa filings, offering a detailed snapshot of compensation across the company and its subsidiaries, including WhatsApp.
Software engineers and AI experts earn top salaries
The report highlights that software engineers at Meta can earn base salaries of up to $450,000 (around Rs 4.18 crore). Most employees fall within a base pay range of $150,000 to $250,000 (approximately Rs 1.3 crore to Rs 2.3 crore), but specialised roles command significantly higher figures.

Research engineers can earn as much as $400,000 (around Rs 3.7 crore), while product managers may receive up to $348,000 (Rs 3.2 crore). At the senior-most level, a vice president of AI earns a base salary of $650,000 (approximately Rs 6 crore).
AI roles dominate high-paying positions
Artificial intelligence and machine learning roles stand out among the highest-paying positions. AI research scientists earn between $163,800 (Rs 1.5 crore) and $328,000 (Rs 3 crore), while machine learning engineers can make up to $250,000 (around Rs 2.3 crore). Software engineers working specifically in machine learning roles can earn close to $300,000 (approximately Rs 2.7 crore).
Other technical roles also offer strong compensation. Data scientists can earn up to $295,703 (around Rs 2.7 crore), while senior data and analytics managers earn even higher salaries.
Product and design roles also well compensated
Beyond engineering, product and design roles at Meta are also well paid. Product managers earn between $165,000 (around Rs 1.5 crore) and $348,000 (Rs 3.2 crore). Meanwhile, product designers and user experience (UX) researchers often earn more than $200,000 (around Rs 1.8 crore).
Base pay just one part of total compensation
The figures cited in the report reflect base salaries only and do not include bonuses, stock options, or additional benefits. These components can significantly increase overall compensation. In some cases, total packages for top AI researchers are said to exceed $100 million.
