With the start of a new year, many bank customers keep track of the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday list to plan their work. Compared to January, February 2026 will see fewer bank holidays across the country, though some state-specific closures will still apply.

According to the official RBI calendar, bank branches will remain closed on select regional holidays, along with all Sundays and the usual second and fourth Saturdays.

Fewer holidays than January

January saw a higher number of bank holidays in many states due to occasions like the New Year, Makar Sankranti and Republic Day, with total non-working days ranging between 10 and 12, depending on the region. February, however, is expected to be lighter, allowing customers more working days to visit bank branches.

Maha Shivratri will be observed on Sunday, February 15 this year. Since it falls on a Sunday, it will not lead to an additional weekday closure for banks.

As per RBI rules, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, as well as on Sundays. The central bank releases a state-wise holiday list every year, covering national holidays, regional festivals and banking-specific closures under the Negotiable Instruments Act, RTGS holidays and account-closing days.

In February 2026, banks across different states and Union Territories will remain closed for a total of nine days. These include weekends, second and fourth Saturdays, and regional holidays such as Losar in Gangtok on February 18, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti in Belapur, Mumbai and Nagpur on February 19, and Statehood Day in Aizawl and Itanagar on February 20.
