Why India’s two-wheeler industry is betting big on the India–EU trade deal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Tuesday the final agreement on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union. Industry leaders believe this agreement will open new horizons for the country's two-wheeler manufacturing sector, including motorcycles and scooters, to enter European markets.

They view this long-discussed agreement not merely as tariff reduction or commercial benefits, but as a strategic partnership that will strengthen India's manufacturing capacity and international position. Hero MotoCorp CEO Harshvardhan Chitale stated that this agreement will provide opportunities for motorcycles and scooters made in India to increase their presence in European markets.

Why industry leaders see the deal as a turning point

Meanwhile, TVS Motor Company Chairman Sudarshan Venu has also described this agreement as significant. According to him, such a large-scale trade agreement does not merely reduce tariffs, but reshapes the entire business environment, strengthens supply chains, and opens new avenues for competition on the global stage for innovation-driven Indian manufacturers.
