The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is set to declare the results of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 on March 19. Candidates who appeared for the examination will be able to check their results on the official website: gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
To access their results, candidates will need to log in using their enrollment number or registered email ID along with their password.
Exam conducted across multiple dates
The GATE 2026 examination was held on February 7, 8, 14 and 15. The test covered 30 different subject papers and was conducted in two shifts each day in computer-based test (CBT) mode.
Around 7 lakh candidates appeared for the exam this year, making it one of the largest national-level engineering entrance examinations in India.

Important dates for candidates
According to IIT Guwahati, the GATE 2026 results will be released on March 19. After the announcement of results, the institute will publish the topper list on March 25.
Candidates will be able to download their official scorecards from March 27. The scorecards will remain available for free download until May 31, 2026.
After this deadline, candidates can still obtain their scorecards by paying a fee of Rs 500. The paid download facility will be available from June 1 to December 31, 2026.
Steps to check GATE 2026 results
Candidates can follow these steps to access their results once they are released:
Step 1: Visit the official website: gate2026.iitg.ac.in
Step 2: Click on the GATE 2026 result link.
Step 3: Enter your login credentials (Enrollment ID/Email and Password).
Step 4: Your GATE 2026 result will be displayed on the screen.
Step 5: Check your result carefully.
Step 6: Download and save your GATE 2026 scorecard for future reference.
Importance of GATE scores
GATE scores play a key role in admission to postgraduate programmes such as M.Tech, M.E. and Ph.D. at leading institutions, including IITs and National Institutes of Technology (NITs). Many of these programmes also provide a monthly stipend to students.

Apart from higher education, GATE scores are widely used by public sector undertakings (PSUs) to recruit engineers. Companies such as ONGC, NTPC, BHEL, GAIL, IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, SAIL, Power Grid and Coal India hire candidates for roles like Engineer Trainee, Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) and Management Trainee.
Research organisations, including DRDO, ISRO and BARC also consider GATE scores for certain recruitment opportunities.
