The Indian Army has invited applications for the Technical Entry Scheme (TES)-56 course, offering students who have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) an opportunity to join the armed forces as officers. The course is scheduled to begin in January 2027.
The official notification states that eligible candidates must have passed Class 12 with at least 60 per cent aggregate marks in PCM subjects and should have appeared for JEE Main 2026. The recruitment drive is being conducted for 90 vacancies for the post of Lieutenant.
How selection happens through the TES route
Unlike NDA recruitment, candidates applying through TES do not have to appear for a separate written examination conducted by the Army. Shortlisting is done based on JEE Main performance and other eligibility factors, after which selected candidates are called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview.

Candidates who clear the SSB interview and medical examination undergo four years of military and technical training at designated institutions before receiving a permanent commission as Lieutenants in the Indian Army.
Who can apply for TES-56?
The scheme is open to unmarried male candidates who meet the required educational qualifications. Reports stated that applicants should fall within the prescribed age bracket mentioned in the official notification.
The online application process has already started on the official recruitment website and will continue till June 12, 2026. Interested candidates can apply through the official Indian Army recruitment portal.
Why TES remains popular among defence aspirants
TES has remained one of the preferred entry routes for students aiming to build a career in the armed forces immediately after school. The scheme combines technical education with military training and leads to a permanent commission in the Army after successful completion of training.
