In various colleges, classes for the third semester have not been held for even 40 days after the second semester examinations at the undergraduate level. Meanwhile, the examination controller department of Calcutta University has announced the examination schedule. As a result, students of Arts, Science and Commerce are in trouble. In this situation, hundreds of students from the Calcutta University Students Union (CUSU) staged a protest at the university's College Street campus on Monday.
Their allegation is that under the new education policy (CCF), the second semester examinations (BA/BSc/B-Com) for three and four-year major courses ended on November 19 and 18.

After that, the university issued the examination schedule after 80 days. Although there were 66 academic days during this period, classes were held for only 40 days. Meanwhile, examinations for the fifth semester under both old and new education policies in 150 colleges have already started on January 19.
In many colleges, teaching in classes has been suspended due to examinations in both halves. Therefore, examinations cannot be conducted in any way without completing the syllabus before the third-semester examinations.

Convener Anik De from CUSU said, "After informing Registrar Debashis Das about the matter, he assured us of speaking with the Vice-Chancellor. But we are adamant about postponing the examination dates. After demonstrating in the university premises for about five hours, the Vice-Chancellor sir came to the university and spoke with us. He accepted our demands. He completely agreed with our statement. He also spoke with officials of the examination controller department."
Vice-Chancellor Ashutosh Ghosh said, "There is logic in the students' demand to postpone the examinations. Colleges will have to conduct third-semester classes during the fifth-semester examinations. However, I have asked the controller department to see whether classes can be held by postponing the third semester examination schedule by at least 15 days." He added that with elections ahead, if examinations are postponed too much, the first semester examinations will shift to June. Students will face problems again.
