The Government of Tripura has taken a major step towards strengthening advanced skill development in the Northeast with the launch of IIT Delhi–led Advanced IT and Emerging Technology Skill Development Programmes under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0. The initiative was rolled out on Monday by the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, in collaboration with IIT Delhi.
The programme is being implemented with support from IIT Delhi’s Industry Hub for Financing of Advanced Research (IHFC) and its Technology Innovation Hub (TIH). It was inaugurated at NIT Agartala, marking a significant push to equip Tripura’s youth with future-ready skills aligned with emerging technologies and industry needs.

PMKVY 4.0 and future-ready training
A key highlight of the launch was the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with global technology majors IBM and HCL. IT Secretary to the Government of Tripura, Kiran Gitte, told ANI that these partnerships will focus on industry-driven training through live projects, internships and improved placement opportunities for students from the state.
Under PMKVY 4.0, IIT Delhi will offer specialised courses in cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The programmes will emphasise classroom-based teaching and hands-on laboratory training, delivered by IIT faculty and industry experts.

In the first phase, 300 engineering graduates will be trained in collaboration with leading institutions, including NIT Agartala, NIELIT Agartala, MSME Tool Room Agartala and Tripura University. Inaugurating the programme, IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee praised the initiative and said that it would help make students from Tripura both future-ready and employment-ready. He later told ANI that the programme reflects the vision of “Skill Tripura, Skilled India” and positions the state as an emerging hub for advanced technology talent in the Northeast.
