‘No place for self-serving politics’: PM Modi calls for unity amid West Asia crisis, warns against rumours

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday cautioned against politicising the ongoing West Asia conflict, stressing that national interest must remain above political differences. Speaking during the 132nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, he also acknowledged the support extended by Gulf nations to Indian citizens living in the region.

Referring to the scale of the crisis, Modi highlighted the large Indian presence in affected areas and expressed gratitude for their safety. “The month of March has been eventful at a global level. In the past, the entire world faced numerous problems for a long time due to COVID-19. We all expected that after emerging through the COVID crisis, the world would move forward on the path of progress with a fresh start. But conditions of war and conflict continued to emerge in different regions of the world. Currently, a fierce war has been going on for a month in our neighbourhood. Relatives of lakhs of families reside in these countries, and particularly work in the Gulf countries. I am grateful to Gulf countries for providing every kind of assistance to over one crore Indians there.” Read full story

Former Raymond chairman and India's 'Complete Man' Vijaypat Singhania dies at 87

Vijaypat Singhania, former chairman and managing director of the Raymond Group and a well-known figure in India’s corporate world, passed away in Mumbai on Saturday night. Singhania was 87 years old and was admitted to a hospital a day ago after his health declined due to old-age problems. Delhi braces for rain and thunderstorms today

Delhi is set for a change in weather on Sunday, March 29, with cloudy skies, light rain and thunderstorm activity expected through the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, warning of intermittent showers, lightning and gusty winds that may affect daily routines. The day is likely to begin on a pleasant note, but conditions may turn unstable as the hours progress. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in parts of the city, along with thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. A second spell of very light rain or drizzle is expected later in the afternoon to evening, again accompanied by thunder and gusty winds. Delhi to tighten civic rules with higher fines

Residents and small businesses in Delhi may soon face steeper fines for civic violations, as the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, proposes a shift from low penalties to a structured, penalty-based system. The Bill, tabled in Parliament on Friday, amends provisions under the Delhi Municipal Corporation (DMC) Act, 1957, and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NMDC) Act, 1994. “The aim is to rationalise outdated provisions and promote ease of living and doing business by shifting to a penalty-based system,” said an MCD official.
