Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on Saturday, discussing the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its broader implications. The conversation comes amid continued tensions in the region and growing concerns over energy security and maritime routes.
Focus on West Asia conflict
Sharing details of the call on X, Modi said the discussion centred on the war in West Asia, which has been ongoing for more than a month. He reiterated India’s position against attacks on key infrastructure in the region.

Shipping routes and navigation discussed
Modi said both leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining open and secure shipping lanes. Maritime routes in the region, particularly those linked to energy transport, remain critical for global trade.

"We agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keeping shipping lines open and secure. Thanked him for his continued support for the welfare of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia," Modi added.
Series of diplomatic calls
The conversation is part of a series of calls Modi has held with world leaders since the conflict between Iran and the United States, backed by Israel, began on February 28. India has consistently called for de-escalation and stability in the region.
Earlier in the week, Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump. He described the exchange as useful and said both sides discussed the evolving situation in West Asia.
India has emphasised the need for early restoration of peace and maintaining open access through key maritime routes. Modi said both sides agreed to remain in touch regarding efforts aimed at peace and stability.
