The biennial Rajya Sabha elections held on Monday saw the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consolidate its gains in major states as its candidates emerged victorious in Bihar and Odisha.
The voting for the Rajya Sabha election has been conducted for the 11 seats in the three states of Bihar, Odisha, and Haryana. The seats are part of the overall election for the 37 Rajya Sabha seats in the 10 states. There were several unopposed candidates in the other states as well.

Among the notable winners of the Rajya Sabha election is the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar. As per an earlier report by the Hindustan Times, the opposition has faced a setback in the Bihar and Odisha Rajya Sabha elections as the NDA candidates benefited from the cross-voting and the absence of some members.
NDA sweeps Bihar seats
In Bihar, all five seats went to candidates backed by the NDA alliance. Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) emerged victorious along with BJP leaders Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar. JD(U) nominee Ram Nath Thakur and Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha also won their contests.
In Odisha, the BJP secured two seats with the victories of Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar, while Santrupt Misra of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Independent candidate Dilip Ray also won.
Haryana saw one seat each going to the BJP and the Congress. BJP leader Sanjay Bhatia was elected alongside Karamvir Singh Boudh of the Congress.

Several candidates elected unopposed
Many candidates across the country secured Rajya Sabha seats without a contest.
Former Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai of the AIADMK and senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi were among those elected unopposed.
In West Bengal, four Trinamool Congress nominees — Babul Supriyo, Rajeev Kumar, Menaka Guruswamy and Koel Mallick, were elected without opposition, along with former BJP state president Rahul Sinha.
Notably, Menaka Guruswamy has become India’s first openly queer member of Parliament.

In Maharashtra, all seven candidates were elected unopposed, including six nominees from the ruling Mahayuti alliance and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar. In Telangana, Congress candidates Abhishek Singhvi and Vem Narender Reddy were elected unopposed.
Similarly, all six candidates in Tamil Nadu won without a contest, including AIADMK MP M Thambidurai, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, DMK leaders Tiruchi Siva and J Constantine Ravindran, Congress nominee M Christopher Tilak, and DMDK treasurer LK Sudeesh.
In Himachal Pradesh, Congress candidate Anurag Sharma, considered close to chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, won the Rajya Sabha seat from the hill state.
