A woman lost her life on Tuesday morning after an iron bridge collapsed in north Delhi's Roop Nagar, causing her to fall into a drain. The incident has once again drawn attention to safety concerns linked to public infrastructure in the city.
Bridge collapse leads to fatal fall
According to initial information, the woman fell into the drain as the iron bridge gave way, leading to her drowning. Rescue efforts began soon after the incident was reported.
Authorities have launched a search operation to ensure that no other individuals were affected. Teams from the Boat Club have been deployed to scan the drain and surrounding area, Hindustan Times reported.
Officials said the operation is ongoing as a precautionary measure to check if anyone else may have fallen into the drain when the bridge collapsed. More details into the incident are awaited.

Pattern of safety concerns in the city
The incident comes amid a series of similar accidents reported across Delhi this year, raising concerns about safety measures at construction and repair sites. Questions have been raised about whether adequate precautions are being followed under contract rules and traffic regulations.
Earlier this year, a 25-year-old bank telecaller, Kamal Dhyani, died in west Delhi's Janakpuri after reportedly falling into an uncovered pit on a poorly lit road. The pit, around 4 to 5 metre deep, had been left open as part of a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) project.
Police had arrested a contractor in connection with that case, highlighting lapses in safety compliance. The Roop Nagar incident adds to growing concerns about infrastructure maintenance and public safety in the capital.
