With the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup set to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, teams have already begun shaping their squads and leadership strategies. Amid this buildup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has taken a decisive step to ensure continuity at the top.

Miraz entrusted with ODI leadership till 2027

The BCB has confirmed that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue as Bangladesh’s ODI captain through to the 2027 World Cup. The move reflects the board’s long-term vision of building a cohesive unit under consistent leadership. Miraz, who assumed captaincy last year, has already shown promising results. Under his guidance, Bangladesh secured notable series wins against the West Indies in October 2025 and Pakistan in March 2026.

BCB’s cricket operations chairman, Nazmul Abedeen, emphasised the importance of stability, stating that Miraz needs sustained time in the role to properly shape the squad ahead of a global tournament.

Litton Das to lead T20 setup till 2028

In the shortest format, Litton Das has been retained as captain until the 2028 ICC T20 World Cup. Initially appointed until 2026, his tenure has now been extended to maintain leadership consistency.

Bangladesh had earlier opted out of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India, citing security concerns, prompting a recalibration of their T20 roadmap. With this extension, the board aims to give Litton ample time to develop a competitive and settled T20 unit.

Rafique joins as a spin consultant

In another strategic addition, former Bangladesh spinner Mohammad Rafique has been appointed as the team’s spin bowling consultant for a year. His experience is expected to bolster Bangladesh’s traditionally strong spin department.
