The 2025 season was a forgettable one for the Chennai Super Kings, and their struggles have spilt into IPL 2026. After finishing last season at the bottom, CSK entered the new campaign hoping for redemption. However, defeats against Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and now Royal Challengers Bengaluru have turned that hope into early-season concern. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side slumped to a third consecutive loss, going down by 43 runs in a one-sided contest.
RCB’s batting carnage powers massive total
RCB delivered a commanding batting performance, piling up a daunting 250/3 in their 20 overs. While Virat Kohli (28 off 18) and Philip Salt (46 off 30) provided a steady platform, it was the middle order that truly took control. Devdutt Padikkal struck a fluent 50 off 29 balls, anchoring the innings before accelerating.

Captain Rajat Patidar and Tim David then unleashed absolute carnage. Patidar smashed 48* off just 19 deliveries, while David’s explosive 70* off 25 balls, including a flurry of sixes, dismantled the CSK attack. RCB built three crucial partnerships exceeding 50 runs, ensuring sustained pressure throughout. CSK’s bowlers, including Jamie Overton, Shivam Dube, and Anshul Kamboj, picked up wickets but struggled to contain the run flow.
CSK falter despite middle-order resistance
Chasing 251, CSK never found stability. Early dismissals of Sanju Samson (9), Ruturaj Gaikwad (7), and Ayush Mhatre (1) derailed the innings. The pressure mounted quickly, exposing the lack of a settled batting template.
Sarfaraz Khan (50 off 25) and Prashant Veer (43 off 29) offered some resistance with aggressive strokeplay, while Jamie Overton chipped in with a quick 37. However, regular wickets halted momentum, and CSK were eventually bowled out for 207 in 19.4 overs.

RCB’s bowling unit complemented the batting effort effectively. Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the charge with three key wickets, while Krunal Pandya and Jacob Duffy claimed two apiece. With contributions across departments, RCB sealed a comprehensive win, while CSK’s early-season woes continue to deepen.
