The IPL season continues to throw up contrasting narratives. On one hand, Ajinkya Rahane is leading Kolkata Knight Riders under mounting pressure, while Yashasvi Jaiswal is enjoying a rich vein of form for Rajasthan Royals. The two could soon share the same franchise space in domestic cricket, even if not in India colours for now.
Jaiswal picked despite unavailability
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been drafted into the Bandra Blasters squad for the upcoming T20 Mumbai League. The decision is notable given that he is unlikely to feature in the tournament. Jaiswal is set to represent India in the one-off Test against Afghanistan starting June 6, which overlaps with the league window.

Despite this, Bandra Blasters have secured him, banking perhaps on his long-term value and star appeal. Jaiswal’s current form justifies the interest. Opening for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, he has amassed 245 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 49. His strike rate, exceeding 150, underlines his aggressive approach at the top of the order.
Rahane faces scrutiny amid KKR struggles
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane has been picked by North Mumbai Panthers for the same league. Unlike Jaiswal, Rahane’s current IPL campaign has been far from dominant. He has scored 152 runs in seven matches, with a highest score of 67 and a strike rate of 144.76, decent but not match-defining.
More significantly, Rahane is under pressure as captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. The team has managed just one win in seven matches, leaving them near the bottom of the table. This poor run has intensified scrutiny over both leadership decisions and overall team strategy.

While Jaiswal’s trajectory points upward with consistent performances, Rahane finds himself navigating a challenging phase. The T20 Mumbai League selections highlight how franchises continue to invest in both form players and experienced leaders, even when their immediate availability or performance raises questions.
