A ticketing glitch on FIFA's official website has left dozens of football fans in an unexpected situation after they were issued FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets without being charged. What initially appeared to be a lucky break for supporters has now turned into a race against time, with FIFA asking affected fans to pay the correct amount if they wish to keep their seats.
The issue reportedly emerged during the online checkout process, where a payment processing error resulted in tickets being confirmed for zero dollars. Fans received booking confirmations despite no payment being successfully processed, prompting confusion and excitement among those fortunate enough to secure seats.
FIFA acknowledges administrative error
According to The Times of India, FIFA has confirmed that the incident was caused by an administrative and payment-processing mistake on its ticketing platform. According to the governing body, around 60 supporters were affected by the error and received confirmation messages showing that their tickets had been successfully issued without payment.
The organisation said it regretted the confusion and inconvenience caused by the glitch and has since contacted the affected supporters. FIFA clarified that the tickets were never intended to be free and that the pricing error occurred due to a technical issue during checkout.
While the number of affected fans is relatively small compared to the millions expected to attend the tournament, the incident has generated significant attention on social media.

Seven-day deadline to keep tickets
Per The Times of India, FIFA has informed affected supporters that their seats remain reserved for the time being. However, fans have been given a seven-day window to complete the payment process and purchase the tickets at their original price.
Those who fail to make the required payment within the deadline risk losing their reservations. FIFA has indicated that any unpaid tickets may be cancelled and released back into the ticketing system for sale to other supporters.
The governing body has sought to reassure fans that the issue is being handled individually and that those impacted will have the opportunity to retain their seats if payment is completed within the stipulated period.

Fresh scrutiny on FIFA's ticketing process
According to The Times of India, the episode comes at a sensitive time for FIFA, with the 2026 tournament approaching and ticketing remaining a major point of discussion among supporters. The World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the largest edition in the competition's history, featuring 48 teams and more than 100 matches.
The affected tickets were reportedly all allocated for group-stage matches in Toronto. Although the error impacted only a limited number of fans, it has renewed scrutiny of FIFA's ticketing operations, which have previously faced criticism over pricing structures, seat allocations and consumer rights concerns.
For the affected supporters, the message is clear: the tickets are still available, but they will not remain free.
