Gurugram-based Stupa Sports has received official approval from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for its AI-powered Instant Review System (IRS). After this certification, the system can now be used in BWF-sanctioned tournaments worldwide, helping bring accurate, affordable decision-making tools to badminton at all levels.
Clears accuracy test with 99% score
In late 2025, the BWF conducted detailed testing, and after that, they approved the system. The system achieved an impressive 99% accuracy, comfortably crossing the required 98% benchmark. Following this, the IRS has been added to the BWF’s approved equipment list, and federations across regions have been informed that it is ready for use in competitions.

Until now, review systems in badminton have mostly been limited to big tournaments due to high costs and complex setups. Stupa Sports aims to change that with a lightweight and cost-effective solution that is easy to install. This opens the door for smaller events and developing badminton markets to use the same level of officiating technology as elite competitions.
How the AI system works in real time
The IRS uses multiple high-speed cameras placed around the court to track the shuttlecock during play. Its AI-based computer vision then analyses the shuttle’s movement and accurately determines where it lands. The decision is delivered instantly, helping umpires make quick and reliable calls.
