Amazon Prime Video recently unveiled its upcoming slate at the ‘It Starts Here’ event on March 19, and one project that immediately caught attention was Sundar Poonam, starring Sanya Malhotra. The teaser hints at a dark, layered story rooted in love, obsession and hidden truths, the teaser says "inspired by incidents that actually happened", but it has also sparked a bigger question: if the film is based on real incident a real-life crime, then which one?
Is Sundar Poonam inspired by a real case?
The teaser introduces Sanya Malhotra as Poonam, a character surrounded by mystery. It follows a newlywed couple who go missing during their honeymoon in Kashmir, with the investigation slowly uncovering disturbing truths about the bride.
What has caught viewers’ attention is the film’s resemblance to the June 2025 Meghalaya honeymoon murder case. In that case, Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi was killed during his honeymoon, with his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi later arrested for allegedly planning the murder along with her lover.

One user wrote on the teaser's comment section,"I just opened the app, read the caption, and got spooked."
One wrote simply,"Indore murder case."
Comments like, "Looks like Raja Raghuvanshi murder case", "Meghalaya murder case", "Indore case file" fueled the speculations more.
The real case involved a conspiracy with hired killers, and some elements in the film appear to mirror it. The lead character name Poonam, for instance, closely resembles Sonam from the actual case. The teaser also hints at a character named Raju repeatedly calling, adding to the parallels. However, while the teaser mentions that the story is inspired by true events, the makers have not officially confirmed any direct link to the Meghalaya case.
Directed by Pulkit and co-written with Jyotsana Nath, Sundar Poonam appears to explore the darker side of relationships, where love turns into obsession and truth becomes difficult to separate from lies.
With Sanya Malhotra known for taking on intense and unconventional roles, expectations from the film are already high. The haunting tone, scenic yet unsettling backdrop and suspense-driven narrative suggest a psychological thriller that will keep viewers guessing.
Although the release date has not been announced yet, the teaser alone has generated strong buzz.
