India’s rising boxing stars shine in Bangkok with five medals at Futures Cup 2026

India secured five medals at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok, highlighting the steady rise of the country’s youth boxing programme.

India delivered an impressive performance at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok. The young Indian boxing contingent returned home with five medals across different weight categories. The results reflect the growing strength and confidence of India’s youth boxing programme on the international stage.

Chandrika Pujari leads India’s medal haul

Chandrika Pujari emerged as the standout performer for India by winning the gold medal in the women’s 51 kg category. She produced a strong and confident display in the final to defeat Uzbekistan’s Mardonova Nazokat by unanimous decision. Her victory highlighted the skill and determination of India’s young boxing talents competing at the international level. The tournament, held in Bangkok from March 8 to 15, saw Indian U-19 boxers competing in Youth Olympic weight categories against strong global opponents.

Three silvers and a bronze add to India’s tally

India also secured three silver medals in the competition. Gunjan (48 kg) finished second after losing her final bout to an opponent from England by a 5-0 decision. Joyshree Devi (54 kg) fought hard in the final but went down 4-1 to a boxer from the United States. In the men’s 50 kg category, L Ambekar Meetei claimed silver after losing his final match to Ukraine. Earlier in the tournament, Radhamani Longjam (57 kg) secured a bronze medal after a closely contested semi-final bout against Ukraine’s Yevanhelina Petruk.

With World Boxing President Gennadiy Golovkin and BFI President Ajay Singh present at the event, India’s strong performance reflected the steady development of the country’s youth boxing ecosystem. Regular national competitions, better training structures and increased international exposure are helping young athletes prepare for global events, including the upcoming Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
