Various reports suggesting that OnePlus may shut down its operations outside China sparked concern among users this week, prompting the company to issue a clarification. A headline claiming that āOnePlus is being dismantledā went viral on X (formerly Twitter), leading to speculation about the future of the company in India.
OnePlus, which now operates as part of Oppo and functions largely as a sub-brand, shares much of its hardware and software ecosystem with its parent company. This has often led to confusion about its independent operations. As rumours about OnePlus shutting shop in key markets gained traction, the company stepped in to deny the claims.

OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu addresses rumours
OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu took to X to respond to the reports, calling them false. In his post, āI wanted to address some misinformation that has been circulating about OnePlus India and its operations. Weāre operating as usual and will continue to do so. Never Settle.ā
The rumours come at a time when OnePlus has visibly reduced the number of device launches and limited availability across regions. However, this shift is part of a broader realignment of product and market focus rather than a sign of the brand struggling.

Why OnePlus scaling back isnāt surprising
Talk of OnePlus winding up is not new, but the latest reports intensified speculation. While OnePlus did face challenges in India due to the green line display issue, leading some offline retailers to stop selling its phones, the company has since addressed the problem. It remains one of the few brands to offer a lifetime warranty on displays for both older and newer devices.
There have also been reports about the cancellation of the OnePlus 15s and the OnePlus Open 2 not launching this year. These moves suggest that the company may be streamlining its portfolio to focus on products with better revenue and margins.
Oppo continues to give OnePlus a strong role in major markets like India, where the Nord series performs well. While the premium lineup is less aggressive, there is little indication that OnePlus plans to exit India anytime soon.
