Google has reportedly been working on a new feature since last year, which enables users to change their Gmail ID without losing emails, according to a post on X by Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Pichai wrote on X that people would now no longer need to use an email address that might've been stuck in time.

"2004 was a good year, but your Gmail address doesn't need to be stuck in it", Pichai wrote on a X post.
How to avail this new feature?
If users want to use this feature to obtain a new Gmail address while keeping the same account, they must go to the settings page on Gmail and select any available address.
Sundar Pichai also added, "To say goodbye to v0t3f0rp3dr02004@gmail.com or mrbrightside416@gmail.com (or whatever you were into at the time), go to your Google Account settings and choose any name available."
Currently, this feature is available for select users.

Old ID stays intact
Users can now receive emails on their new accounts after changing their email addresses. Their old addresses, however, will remain linked to their accounts.
This implies that no one else can claim the old addresses after the ID has been changed, and those who do not have the new address can continue to send emails to users on the old one.

The emails received on both addresses will reportedly come in the same inbox.
The new Google feature says that the user data, including emails, photos, and more, will not be affected by the change.
Users can still go back to their prior email address at any time, but the new email address cannot be deleted.
