A shocking incident in Chandigarh's Sector 33B has left residents worried after a Blinkit delivery worker was seen standing motionless for nearly two hours. Eyewitnesses said the man appeared unresponsive, staring blankly in one direction with a bidi in his mouth, showing no awareness of his surroundings.

Locals alert police

As time passed and the situation did not change, bystanders grew concerned. Initially watching from a distance, they eventually informed the police. Authorities arrived at the spot and took the delivery worker away for medical evaluation.

While the exact cause behind his condition remains unclear, the unusual nature of the incident has sparked concern among residents in the area.

People worried online

The video drew reactions from people on social media.

"Chandigarh felt unsettling today. In Sector 33B, a young man stood motionless for nearly 2-2.5 hours. A bidi in his mouth, eyes fixed, completely disconnected from everything around him.

People watched, then worried. Someone called the police. They came and took him away. What’s really happening in our city?" said one user.

"It looks like he is on some lethal drugs," said another.

"Wait what ? Zombie drug (Fentanyl) has reached India ? If yes, it’s not a good sign," said a user on X.

One user wrote, "I've seen a video like this before. It's the side effect of heroine, if I recall correctly."

"Chandigarh has always stood for modernity and order. Let's not let it become another statistic in Punjab's drug tragedy. This is deeply unsettling... and unfortunately, not as rare as we'd like to believe. It's a visible symptom of something much larger happening in Chandigarh and across Punjab. Has anyone else witnessed similar scenes in the city lately?" wrote another user.

"Why did someone let him stand for 2-2.5 hours?" one asked.

"Looks like a fentanyl fold. A big problem in the US. Seems it has reached our shores too!" wrote another.

One user prayed for his fast recovery and wrote, "This is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking to watch. A young gig worker standing frozen like that for hours raises serious red flags—could be extreme exhaustion from long shifts, heat/dehydration, a medical issue, or yes, substance abuse.Punjab and nearby areas like Chandigarh have battled a devastating drug crisis for decades, with synthetic opioids taking a heavy toll on youth.

If this is linked to stronger stuff entering the market, it's a wake-up call for all of us. Kudos to the people who didn't just film but called the police. Hope the worker gets proper medical help and support, not just judgment."

Questions around working conditions

The episode has once again drawn attention to the challenges faced by workers in the gig economy. Delivery personnel often deal with long working hours, strict timelines, and limited access to healthcare or rest.

Experts have earlier pointed out that factors such as extreme fatigue, dehydration, substance use, or underlying health conditions can sometimes result in such behaviour. However, in this case, no official explanation has been provided so far.

The incident continues to raise questions, even as authorities look into what may have led to the situation.
