Pakistani actor and singer Ali Zafar found himself at the centre of social media attention this Eid. The reason was unusual; his outfit choice, not any professional controversy.
Ali Zafar posted a photo with his wife, internet personality Ayesha Fazli, on X. He was seen wearing a see-through kurta without an undershirt. He also appeared watering plants in a traditional Ajrak dhoti. Both images drew significant online criticism.
The sarcastic apology
Rather than ignoring the trolls, Ali Zafar responded with humour directly on X. He posted a mock apology addressing his critics. In his X post, Ali Zafar wrote, "I would like to apologise to the nation for wearing a see-through kurta without a banyan, and for the very serious act of watering plants while dressed in a traditional Ajrak dhoti on Eid."
He followed it up on X, adding, "I understand this has been one of the most pressing national and global issues affecting everyone's lives lately, and I will do my best to never repeat this grave mistake again. Thank you for your attention to this matter."
A follow-up post for his critics
Zafar posted again on X, this time specifically targeting those demanding explanations. He wrote on X, "And because 'the nation wants to know' why I didn't wear the banyan," attaching a funny video in Punjabi. The post quickly gained traction online.
Although the X account of Ali Zafar is no longer available to view in India.

Past controversy
In 2018, Pakistani actor Meesha Shafi accused Zafar of sexual harassment. He has consistently denied the claims and filed a defamation case against Meesha Shafi following the accusation.
This latest incident, however, drew attention for a far lighter reason -and his witty X posts only added to the buzz.
