Lexus is set to introduce the new-generation ES luxury sedan in India on March 20, marking the arrival of a significantly updated version of one of its most popular premium sedans in the country. The upcoming model is expected to bring a refreshed design, upgraded technology and hybrid powertrain options to the Indian market.

Sharper design and upgraded cabin

The latest Lexus ES adopts a noticeably sharper and more futuristic design compared with the outgoing model. The front fascia features sleek Z-shaped daytime running lights integrated with the indicators, while the main headlamps are positioned lower and partially concealed by gloss-black trim elements. The traditional spindle grille has been replaced by a more compact air-dam style design, giving the sedan a cleaner and more modern appearance.

From the side, the car features a pronounced shoulder line, a sloping roofline and newly designed alloy wheels that enhance its sporty stance. At the rear, the ES gets a slim full-width LED light bar with illuminated “Lexus” lettering, adding to its premium styling cues.

Inside the cabin, Lexus has adopted a more minimalist approach. The dashboard now features a large 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while many traditional physical buttons have been replaced with touch-based controls. The sedan also gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a premium Mark Levinson sound system, powered seats and reclining rear seats aimed at enhancing comfort for passengers.

Hybrid powertrain expected for India

While Lexus has not officially confirmed the exact powertrain lineup for the India-spec model, the sedan is expected to continue with hybrid options similar to the current ES sold in the country. Globally, the new ES is available with hybrid as well as fully electric powertrains, although the Indian market is likely to receive the hybrid variant at launch.

The outgoing ES 300h uses a 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine paired with an electric motor, delivering strong efficiency and smooth performance, and a similar setup is expected in the updated model. Once launched, the new Lexus ES will compete with luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 in the premium midsize segment.
