The Detroit Lions have reportedly strengthened their backfield by adding running back Isiah Pacheco as a backup option to star rusher Jahmyr Gibbs. The move is expected to provide Detroit with additional depth and physicality in the running game as the team prepares for the upcoming National Football League season.

What are Pacheco's special skills?

Pacheco, known for his aggressive running style and breakaway speed, previously made a name for himself with the Kansas City Chiefs. Since entering the league in 2022, he has been regarded as one of the more explosive running backs, playing a key role in Kansas City’s offensive system with his ability to gain tough yards and contribute in high-pressure situations.

The reported move suggests that Detroit is looking to further diversify its rushing attack. Gibbs emerged as the Lions’ primary running back and one of the most dynamic offensive weapons in the league last season, combining speed, agility and receiving ability out of the backfield. However, the addition of Pacheco could allow the Lions to rotate backs more effectively and maintain a strong ground game throughout the season.

Pacheco’s physical running style could complement Gibbs’ versatility. While Gibbs is known for his ability to stretch defenses with outside runs and receiving routes, Pacheco brings a hard-nosed inside running presence that could help the Lions in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

The move also reflects Detroit’s broader strategy of building a deeper roster capable of sustaining a long playoff run. The Lions have been among the rising contenders in the NFC in recent seasons, and strengthening the backfield could help maintain offensive balance alongside their passing attack. If finalised, Pacheco’s arrival would give Detroit a potentially formidable one-two combination in the backfield. Coaches could use Gibbs as the primary playmaker while deploying Pacheco to wear down opposing defences with powerful downhill runs.

While official confirmation from the team is still awaited, reports of the move have already sparked discussion among fans and analysts about how the new partnership could reshape Detroit’s offensive approach in the coming season.
