The Met Gala has long been known for its tightly curated guest list, overseen by Anna Wintour. Over the years, several well-known names have either been confirmed as not invited again, chosen to step away, or been linked to possible exclusions.

Confirmed and widely discussed cases

Donald Trump remains the only figure publicly confirmed as banned, per a News18 report.. Wintour said in a 2017 interview that he is someone she would not invite back. He last attended in 2012.

Per News 18, fashion commentator Tim Gunn has also said he was banned after recounting an incident involving Wintour. He shared, "I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I've ever seen in fashion and I said, 'It's easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards—two big hulking men—from a fashion show.' All hell broke loose. It was insane. We've had an open war ever since."

Celebrities who distanced themselves

Some figures have openly expressed disinterest in the event. Amy Schumer, speaking in 2016, said, "It's people doing an impression of having a conversation," and added, "I don't like the farce...We're dressed up like a bunch of fucking assholes. I don't like it. I have no interest in fashion...I don't care."

Similarly, Zayn Malik was quoted as saying by News 18, "Now it's not something I would go to," adding he would rather stay home than attend the red carpet event.

Gwyneth Paltrow also shared a candid take, saying, "It sucked" and describing the event as crowded and uncomfortable.

Comments that drew attention

Some appearances have been followed by remarks that sparked speculation about future invites. Rachel Zoe once said, "Anna Wintour is one of my heroes, but they say that I'm more influential. As great as it is, Vogue won't change a designer's business. But if an unknown brand is worn by a certain person in a tabloid, it will be the biggest designer within a week."

Actor Lili Reinhart also hinted her invite may not return, saying it "was fun, but after going again this year, I don't think I'll be invited back...I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress."

Rumours and recent buzz

Nicki Minaj has also been linked to reports of being "shut out", with an insider quoted as saying, "Nicki's invitations didn't just slow down, they vanished. Hollywood stopped returning her calls. This isn't subtle anymore. She's been shut out."

While not all cases are officially confirmed, these instances highlight how appearances, comments and public perception can shape future invitations to one of fashion's most exclusive events.
