Several posters carrying the message “Go Back Modi” appeared in parts of Kolkata ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the city, where he is set to address a rally later this week.

The posters were spotted at multiple locations, including areas visible from the Maa Flyover, drawing the attention of commuters on Friday evening. Images circulating on social media showed large banners carrying protest messages placed along prominent roads in the city.

Posters cite Bengal icons and financial dues

Several hoardings referenced prominent Bengali cultural figures such as Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.

The messages accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of insulting Bengal’s heritage and historical icons. Some banners also demanded the return of ₹1.16 lakh crore, claiming the amount was owed to the state. Other posters called on the Prime Minister to “stop insulting the icons of Bengal” and included appeals to boycott the BJP.

Posters surface before Brigade rally

The posters appeared days before Modi’s rally at the Brigade Parade Ground, where the BJP is expected to conclude its Parivartan Yatra in the state.

It remains unclear who installed the banners across the city. There has been no official confirmation regarding the group or organisation responsible for the posters. Authorities have also not issued a statement on the matter so far.
