The National Testing Agency clarified that NEET-UG 2026 candidates will not need to register again or pay fresh exam fees after the cancellation of the medical entrance test over alleged paper leak concerns.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that candidates will not have to register again or pay examination fees another time following the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026. The announcement comes after widespread confusion among students and parents after the medical entrance examination was scrapped amid allegations of a paper leak.
The NEET-UG 2026 examination was conducted on May 3 across the country and was later cancelled after concerns emerged regarding the alleged circulation of leaked questions before the exam.
No fresh registration required for students
According to the NTA, all candidates who had successfully completed their registration for the cancelled examination will automatically remain eligible for the re-exam. Students will not need to fill out fresh application forms or make any additional fee payments.
The agency’s clarification brought some relief to lakhs of aspirants who were worried about having to repeat the lengthy application process again.

According to the reports of NDTV profit, officials said fresh details regarding the revised examination schedule and admit cards will be announced separately through the official NEET website in the coming days.
Why NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled
The controversy began after allegations surfaced that “guess papers” and leaked material circulated before the exam allegedly matched several questions that later appeared in the actual paper.
The issue quickly triggered outrage among students, parents and coaching institutes across the country. Questions were raised regarding the integrity of the examination process and the security measures in place during the national-level test.
Following the controversy, the Centre ordered a CBI investigation into the alleged paper leak case. Authorities are currently investigating how the suspected leak took place and whether organised networks were involved.
Lakhs of aspirants affected nationwide
The cancellation has impacted more than 24 lakh NEET aspirants across India. Many students had spent months preparing for the highly competitive medical entrance examination and are now facing uncertainty regarding revised exam dates and admission timelines.
Several students and parents expressed concern over the emotional stress caused by the cancellation, especially for candidates appearing for the exam after gap years or multiple attempts.
At the same time, some aspirants welcomed the cancellation decision, saying a re-exam was necessary to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all candidates.
Fresh exam schedule expected soon
The NTA is expected to announce a revised NEET-UG 2026 examination date soon. Candidates have been advised to regularly check the official website for updates regarding admit cards, exam centres and new schedules.
