In view of the ongoing conflict situation in parts of the Middle East, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a special assessment scheme for Class 10 students. The board has decided not to conduct fresh examinations for the remaining papers and will instead calculate results using a formula-based system.
CBSE said that examinations held between February 17 and February 28 across more than 150 affiliated schools in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were conducted as scheduled. These included six major subjects such as Mathematics, English and Science, along with 16 language papers and 22 skill-based subjects.

Five categories of students identified
To ensure a structured evaluation, the board has divided students into five groups based on the number of exams they appeared for. This includes students who completed all papers, those who appeared in four, three or two subjects, and private candidates under the compartment category.
For students who have taken all their exams, results will be prepared entirely on the basis of their performance in those papers. For others, marks will be worked out using the scores of subjects already attempted, along with an average of their best-performing subjects for papers that could not be conducted.
Results to be treated as final
CBSE Examination Controller Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj said, “The result of students who have appeared in all exams will be based on their performance in those examinations.”
The results of students in the Middle East will be declared along with those of candidates from other regions.

Option to improve scores later
Students will have an opportunity to improve their performance through the second board examinations scheduled in May. Schools have been asked to submit a tentative list of candidates by March 31, while examination fees will be collected after the results are announced. The second examination will follow the same syllabus as the main board exams.
CBSE also stated that a separate assessment plan for Class 12 students will be announced at a later stage.
