'Please remember him as the great soul', Prashant Tamang’s wife breaks silence on his death

Just days after Prashant Tamang’s sudden death, his wife Martha Aley clarified the cause and thanked fans for their overwhelming support.

Prashant Tamang, the popular singer, winner of Indian Idol 3 and later made a mark in films, passed away on January 11, 2026, after suffering a heart attack.

He was 43. The sudden news has left the music and film industry in shock, with fans mourning the loss of a familiar and much-loved voice.

Prashant Tamang’s wife opens up on his sudden demise

Breaking her silence after his death, Prashant Tamang’s wife, Martha Aley, also known as Geeta Thapa, spoke exclusively to ANI and thanked people for the love pouring in from across the world.

“I have been receiving calls from people I know and even those I don’t. Flowers keep arriving, and people have come to the hospital to see him for the last time. The love and support have been truly overwhelming. Please remember him as the great soul and human being he was,” she said.

Clarifying the cause of his death, Martha stated, “It was a natural death. He was in his sleep when he left us. I was right beside him at that time.”

She also expressed her gratitude to his fans, who stood by him throughout his journey. “I would love to thank his fans… I have always seen them supporting him… Thank you so much for all the love and support you always gave him… I would really appreciate it if you pray for his departed soul,” she added.

Who is Prashant Tamang?

Prashant Tamang was born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling, West Bengal. Coming from a humble background, his life took a difficult turn early on after his father died in an accident. Forced to leave his studies, Prashant joined the Kolkata Police as a constable to support his family. During his time there, he sang with the police orchestra, which slowly shaped his path toward music.

In 2007, at just 24, he auditioned for Indian Idol and went on to win the third season, becoming a household name. Alongside singing, he also built a career in Nepali cinema with films like Gorkha Paltan, Angalo Yo Maya Ko, and Pardesi. He was last seen in Paatal Lok Season 2 as an assassin named Daniel Lecho. He will also appear posthumously in Salman Khan’s upcoming film Battle of Galwan, scheduled to release on April 17.

Prashant Tamang is survived by his wife, Geeta Thapa, and their four-year-old daughter, Ariah Tamang.
