YouTuber and political commentator Dhruv Rathee has sharply criticised Dhurandhar: The Revenge, accusing the film of distorting real events and presenting a misleading narrative.
In a recent video titled “Dhurandhar 2 Exposed - What They Don’t Show You,” Rathee took aim at director Aditya Dhar, alleging that the film attempts to “rewrite events that citizens of India have lived through.”

‘Inspired by WhatsApp forwards,’ says Rathee
Rathee criticised the film’s disclaimer, which describes it as a fictional work inspired by real events. He argued that the storytelling relies more on unverified narratives than factual accounts.
“Aditya Dhar has created a cinematic universe from WhatsApp forwards. At the beginning, instead of saying ‘inspired by real events’, it should have kept ‘inspired by WhatsApp forwards’,” he said in the video.
He also took issue with the film’s depiction of demonetisation, calling it unrealistic and questioning the rationale behind presenting it as a strategic success. Citing research papers and data from the Reserve Bank of India, Rathee claimed the film ignores the hardships faced by citizens during that period.
The YouTuber further questioned whether films with strong political undertones should face scrutiny, urging institutions such as the Election Commission of India and the Supreme Court of India to examine whether such portrayals are permissible.

He argued that blending fact and fiction to favour a political narrative could set a precedent for similar portrayals in the future.
