A fresh shift in weather conditions has been indicated by the Alipore Meteorological Department, with the recent spell of storms and rainfall gradually losing intensity across the state. Since Thursday midnight, several parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, have witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. Both North and South Bengal experienced weather over the past few days, bringing a temporary dip in temperatures and a brief spell of pleasant spring-like conditions.
Rainfall to gradually decline in South Bengal
The impact of the recent rain has kept temperatures relatively lower, with Kolkata recording a maximum of 31.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday. However, this relief is expected to be short-lived. The weather office has indicated a steady rise in temperature in the coming days.

On Sunday, skies over South Bengal are likely to remain partly cloudy, though the chances of rainfall are low in the immediate term. By Monday, some districts, including Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore and Jhargram, may receive scattered light showers. Similar conditions may persist on Tuesday, with light to moderate rainfall expected in several districts, accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour. From the beginning of April, rainfall activity is expected to reduce significantly, making way for rising heat levels. By the weekend, temperatures in Kolkata may climb to around 36 to 37 degrees Celsius.
Active weather to continue in North Bengal
In contrast, North Bengal is likely to remain under the influence of unstable weather for a few more days. Scattered rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over the next two days. On Tuesday, rainfall activity may intensify further.

Districts such as Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar may experience heavy rainfall. Wind speeds could reach between 40 and 60 km per hour, particularly in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri, raising concerns about strong gusty conditions.
For Kolkata, the likelihood of rain remains limited in the coming days. The city is expected to witness a gradual rise in temperature, with maximum levels possibly touching 36 degrees Celsius within the next week. However, on Tuesday, there is a chance of light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms and winds of 30 to 40 km per hour, similar to other parts of South Bengal.
