A new Bengali show, Kuheli, is set to release this May on Hoichoi. Directed by Aditi Roy, the show centres on a suspicious death that begins to unravel a tightly held network of relationships.

A death that doesn't add up

SP Rana Singha, a senior police officer, is found hanging inside the police station he once led. At first glance, it appears to be a tragic case. But the details begin to raise questions. The silence around the incident stretches, and soon it becomes clear that the death was staged and engineered.

However, what follows is not a straightforward investigation and the story moves through shifting perspectives, where each person connected to Rana becomes a possible link to what happened.

Grief, suspicion and shifting equations

Radhika, Rana's widow, is at the centre of the narrative, but her grief is not presented in a fixed way. Her sister Debika remains composed, revealing little. Ishika, the youngest, moves through the situation with a sense of detachment that stands out.

As the layers unfold, relationships begin to feel uncertain. Past events surface, and Rana's past appears more complicated than what the town believed.

DSP Agni Basu, played by Priyanka Sarkar, leads the case and navigates through the what is being concealed and why.

Speaking about the character, Priyanka Sarkar said, "Agni walks into a town where everyone is grieving and everyone is lying. Her job is to tell the two apart. Every face tells a different story, and every silence feels deliberate. As an outsider and an investigator, she must cut through layers of deception, instinctively separating truth from carefully constructed lies — because in this town, nothing is as it seems, and trusting the wrong person could cost everything. "

Characters with their own versions of truth

The cast includes Kaushik Sen as Rana Singha, Susmita Dey as Radhika Singha, Ridhima Ghosh as Debika Dutta, and Angana Roy as Ishika Roy.

Kaushik Sen described Rana as a character built on contrast. "Rana appears to be everything one expects a man to be. He is respectable, dependable, and admired. He is the ideal husband, friend, brother-in-law, and officer. But what intrigued me most was the illusion of that perfection and the unsettling possibility that lies beneath it . Under it all he is a deeply flawed man and a rather dark human being."

Director Aditi Roy said, "Kuheli is a slow-burn narrative that moves between quirkiness and suspense, unfolding as a two-way journey where every character is both a victim and a potential killer. The storyline, along with the intriguing world built around its characters, gives each of them a motive for murder, elevating it from a mere mystery to a story of profound reckoning."

The series moves through a space where certainty is hard to hold on to. As the investigation progresses, every detail seems open to interpretation, and every character carries something that doesn't fully come into view.
