A vigilance unit of the Delhi Police has arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The officer, identified as Rohtash Kumar, was caught red-handed during a trap operation set up by the vigilance team.
Complaint leads to vigilance trap
According to the Times of India, the case came to light after a resident of Shahdara filed a complaint against the officer. The complainant said his wife had earlier filed a dowry harassment case against him at Geeta Colony police station, and Kumar was the investigating officer in the matter.

Bribe demand reduced after negotiation
According to the complaint, the officer allegedly threatened the man and his family with strict legal action and initially demanded ₹40,000 to “settle” the matter. The amount was later reduced to ₹20,000 after negotiations. Acting on this information, the vigilance team laid a trap and caught the officer while he was accepting the bribe. Officials confirmed that he was apprehended on the spot, highlighting continued efforts to curb corruption within the police force.

The incident once again brings attention to corruption complaints within law enforcement, even as authorities stress vigilance and encourage citizens to report such cases.
