13-year-old girl attacked with acid while returning home in Maharashtra; accused absconding

A Class 6 student was seriously injured in an acid attack in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar, sparking outrage and protests as police hunt for the attacker.

A shocking incident has come to light from Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra, where a 13-year-old schoolgirl was attacked with acid while returning home, leaving her with serious burn injuries and triggering widespread outrage in the area.

According to reports, the incident took place on Tuesday in Vadgaon Pan village in Sangamner taluka. The girl, a Class 6 student, was cycling home from school when an unidentified person threw acid on her face from behind and fled the scene. The attack occurred in broad daylight, and the child’s screams for help drew immediate attention from nearby residents.

Serious injuries, accused still absconding

Villagers rushed to the spot after hearing her cries and took her to a local medical facility. After initial treatment, she was shifted to another hospital for further care. Doctors have confirmed that she suffered severe burns on multiple parts of her body, particularly on her face. Officials said there is significant damage around one of her eyes and the surrounding areas. Despite the extent of her injuries, her condition is currently reported to be stable.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, but the attacker remains unidentified. “We are working to locate the person responsible for this crime as quickly as possible, and we are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras as part of our investigation,” an official stated.

Preliminary information suggests that the girl comes from a financially vulnerable background. Her father is deceased, and she lives with her mother and relatives while continuing her education.

The incident has sparked strong reactions from both residents and political leaders, raising serious concerns about the safety of young girls in public spaces.

As per reports, BJP leader Chitra Wagh condemned the attack, saying, “The incident was very serious, it was shameful, and I can state that my party will see that the perpetrator(s) are brought to justice quickly and also provide the young lady with the highest level of health care and necessary support.”

Meanwhile, protests have erupted in the area, with locals demanding stricter safety measures and swift justice for the victim.
