Samrat Choudhary has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar, marking a significant political moment as he becomes the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hold the top post in the state. He was elected leader of the BJP legislature party earlier this week.
Transition after Nitish Kumar's resignation
Choudhary's elevation comes after Nitish Kumar stepped down from the chief minister's post following his win in the Rajya Sabha. Prior to this, Choudhary served as deputy chief minister and also handled the home portfolio in the Nitish Kumar-led government.
Deputy CMs and government formation
Alongside Choudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary were sworn in as deputy chief ministers. After being chosen as legislative leader, Choudhary met Governor Syed Ata Hasnain to stake claim to form the new government.
The BJP, which contested the Bihar elections as part of the NDA alliance with Janata Dal (United), emerged as the largest party following a landslide performance, paving the way for this leadership change.

Choudhary's message
Soon after his selection, Choudhary thanked the party leadership in a post on X. "I express my heartfelt gratitude to the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party for reposing their trust in me… This is not merely a position for me, but a sacred opportunity to serve the people of Bihar," he added further.
