India settle for silver but confirm place in Women’s Hockey World Cup

England defeated India 2–0 in Hyderabad to win the qualifiers, while India and Scotland also secured Women’s Hockey World Cup berths.

England emerged as champions of the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 in Hyderabad after defeating hosts India 2–0 in the final at the G.M.C. Balayogi Hockey Stadium. The tournament carried high stakes as the top three teams secured qualification for the upcoming Women’s Hockey World Cup. England produced a composed and disciplined performance to lift the gold medal, while India and Scotland also booked their spots for the global showpiece after finishing among the top three teams of the competition.

England clinch title with dominant final performance

England delivered a clinical display in the final to defeat India 2–0 and claim the gold medal. The European side maintained a strong defensive organisation throughout the match and capitalised on key opportunities to take control.

Their second goal came in the third quarter when Elizabeth Neal found the net after a successful video referral upheld the on-field decision. Despite India pushing hard in the final quarter in search of a comeback, England’s defence remained solid and they comfortably held on to secure the championship.

India and Scotland secure World Cup qualification

Although India fell short in the final, the hosts had reason to celebrate as their impressive run in the tournament confirmed their qualification for the Women’s Hockey World Cup. India showed resilience throughout the competition and reached the final after a series of strong performances. The match also marked a personal milestone for Indian captain Salima Tete, who completed 150 international appearances during the final.

Earlier, Scotland sealed the third and final qualification spot from the Hyderabad event after defeating Italy 1–0 in the bronze medal match. Amy Costello scored the decisive goal to guide Scotland to victory, helping the team secure a place in the Women’s Hockey World Cup for the first time in 24 years.
