Hyundai Motor India has introduced the updated Hyundai IONIQ 5 in India, bringing meaningful upgrades in battery capacity, range, and overall technology. Priced at Rs 55.7 lakh (ex-showroom), the refreshed electric SUV aims to offer better practicality for both city commutes and long-distance travel while retaining its distinctive design.

Bigger battery brings more range

The biggest change comes under the floor, where the IONIQ 5 now gets a larger 84 kWh battery pack. Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the SUV delivers a claimed range of up to 690 km as per ARAI figures, making it one of the longest-range EVs in its segment.

The model continues to support ultra-fast charging of up to 350 kW, allowing for quick top-ups and reducing downtime during long journeys.

Subtle yet fresh design updates

Visually, the IONIQ 5 retains its signature pixel-inspired styling but receives a few updates to keep things fresh. Changes include redesigned front and rear bumpers, updated alloy wheels, a new rear spoiler, and revised lighting elements.

These tweaks add a slightly sharper and more robust look while maintaining the clean and futuristic appeal that defines the model.

Cabin and tech enhancements

Inside, the layout remains familiar but gains functional improvements. The SUV now features a new three-spoke steering wheel with illuminated elements and a heated function. Dual 12.3-inch screens continue to handle infotainment and driver information duties.

The updated system includes Hyundai’s new cCNC interface, offering over-the-air updates, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an in-car payment system for EV charging. Physical controls for seat functions have also been added for easier usability.

Safety and overall package

Safety sees incremental upgrades with features like parking collision avoidance assist at the rear and side parking distance warnings, improving confidence in tight urban conditions.

Available in multiple colour options, the updated IONIQ 5 commands a higher price than before, but the addition of a larger battery, extended range, and improved features strengthens its position in India’s premium EV space.
