To tackle one of electric mobility’s biggest urban challenges, the lack of convenient charging. Tata. EV has teamed up with mobile charging specialist Hopcharge to offer doorstep EV charging across the National Capital Region (NCR). Announced this week, the initiative aims to make charging simpler for EV owners who struggle to access a home charger or public fast charger due to parking constraints or rental housing restrictions. The service is being piloted in key NCR cities, including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad.

Charging comes to you

Under the new partnership, customers will be able to book mobile EV charging vans that travel to their location to charge their vehicle on-site, eliminating the need to visit a stationary public charger. The model particularly benefits residents of multi-storey apartments, rented houses or neighbourhoods where installing private charging infrastructure is difficult or prohibited. Tata. EV customers who buy a vehicle from an authorised dealership will also be eligible for complimentary doorstep charging under a limited-period promotional offer, though full terms and deployment timelines have not yet been disclosed.

The mobile charging solution is designed to address persistent barriers in India’s EV ecosystem. While public charging networks have been growing, access remains uneven, especially in dense urban centres where dedicated overnight home charging is often infeasible. Bringing the charger to the vehicle not only saves time but also adds predictability for owners who otherwise might queue for hours at public stations or return home with low battery anxiety.

Subscription plans and prospects

Industry reports suggest that Tata. EV and Hopcharge may offer subscription-based plans that include a set number of fast-charging sessions and additional “RescueCharge” top-ups, allowing flexibility in how often and where vehicles are charged. These plans are aimed at lowering the practical cost and complexity of EV ownership in urban environments. While details on pricing and the number of vans planned have not been officially released, the service is expected to expand as more EVs hit the road.
