Toyota is gearing up to strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly growing SUV market with a series of new launches. The Japanese automaker is expected to introduce four new SUVs in the coming years, ranging from an all-electric model to updated versions of some of its most popular vehicles. The lineup will reportedly include the Urban Cruiser eBella EV, next-generation Fortuner, the updated Hilux pickup and a three-row version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, targeting different segments of the Indian market.
Urban Cruiser eBella to lead Toyota’s EV push
One of the most significant additions will be the Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella, the company’s first mass-market electric vehicle for India. The SUV shares its underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki eVitara and is built on the HEARTECT-e platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. The electric SUV is expected to be offered with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs. The smaller battery version produces around 144 PS, while the larger version generates about 174 PS, both delivering 189 Nm of torque. Toyota claims a driving range of up to 543 km with the larger battery pack. The eBella will mark Toyota’s entry into India’s expanding EV segment, where competition is intensifying with models from Tata, Hyundai and other manufacturers. With increasing government incentives and rising consumer interest in electric mobility, the model could become an important part of Toyota’s future strategy in the country.

Next-gen Fortuner, Hilux update and 7-seat Hyryder
Alongside the EV launch, Toyota is also working on a next-generation version of the Fortuner, one of the brand’s most successful SUVs in India. The upcoming model has been spotted testing overseas and is expected to feature a redesigned exterior with sleeker LED lighting, a wider grille and more advanced technology inside the cabin.
The new Fortuner is likely to retain its 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engines, though mild-hybrid technology may be introduced to improve efficiency and performance. Toyota is also expected to bring an updated version of the Hilux pickup truck to India. The next-generation Hilux, already showcased in international markets, features a more aggressive front design and improved off-road capability.

Another model under development is a seven-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which has been spotted undergoing tests. The extended SUV is expected to retain the current model’s mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrain options, while offering more seating capacity and practicality for family buyers. Toyota’s upcoming SUV lineup reflects its strategy to expand across multiple segments, from electric mobility to premium off-road SUVs, while strengthening its foothold in India’s highly competitive utility vehicle market.
