Digital fraud is increasing very fast day by day, and fake phone calls pretend to be from banks or official services are very common nowadays. These scam calls try to trick people into sharing private information like OTPs, bank details, or personal data. In a country like India, where many people use mobile phones, such frauds are affecting a lot of users every day.
To solve this problem, Google is working on a new safety feature called Android Verified Caller. This feature will warn users before they even pick up a suspicious or fake call. It will help make smartphones safer by detecting scam calls automatically.
With this update, Android users on different phone brands will get better protection from fake calls. It is expected to reduce scams that use fake bank numbers and trick people using fake identities.
What is the Verified Caller feature
According to Android Authority reports, Google’s Verified Caller feature is a new security system in Google Play Services that helps detect fake or scam calls before you answer them. It checks incoming calls against a list of trusted numbers like banks and official helplines. If a number looks suspicious or fake, it immediately alerts the user.

The report says this feature is designed to stop “spoofing,” which is a trick used by scammers. In spoofing, fraudsters make calls that appear to come from trusted numbers like banks or helplines to fool people into thinking the call is real. This feature will detect such fake numbers and warn users in advance. It will also work across the entire Android system, not just in one calling app.
How is it different from earlier feature
As per TV 9 reports, earlier, Android had a feature called Verified Calls, but it worked only inside the Google Phone app. Now the new Verified Caller system is much more advanced because it will work across all Android phones and brands. This means users of Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, Realme, and OnePlus will all get the same level of protection.
How does it help stopping banking frauds
As per TV 9 reports, the main goal of this system is to stop misuse of DNO (Do Not Originate) numbers, which are official numbers that should only receive calls, not make them. Fraudsters often fake these numbers to trick people. The new system will identify such scam calls and warn users before they answer, helping reduce the risk of banking fraud.
Rollout across Android devices
This feature will be released through Google Play Services, so it will work on most Android phones. Since it is not limited to just one app, it will provide wide protection on different devices. This will help many users stay safe from scam calls, no matter which phone they use.

The Android Verified Caller feature is a big step to improve mobile safety and reduce fake call scams. By warning users before they answer calls, it helps prevent frauds that try to trick people using urgency and false information.
However, technology alone is not enough. Users also need to stay careful and should not share personal details with unknown callers. When smart features and user awareness work together, digital safety becomes much stronger and more effective.
