Kolkata Metro’s Blue Line services faced fresh disruptions on Tuesday during peak office hours, leaving passengers frustrated. Several commuters reported that trains were running slower than scheduled, causing inconvenience across multiple stations.

A Metro travelling from Shahid Khudiram to Dumdum reportedly halted for an extended period at Maidan station, triggering chaos among office-goers.

No announcements add to passenger frustration

Passengers alleged that despite repeated halts, no official announcements were made inside the train. One commuter said, “After entering Maidan station, the Metro stood there for a long time. No announcement was made. Naturally, passengers were annoyed during office hours and started shouting. Even after the train resumed, it was moving very slowly.”

The same train reportedly faced additional delays at Park Street station, further worsening the situation.

Signal issue near Esplanade identified as cause

According to Metro authorities, the disruption was caused by a signalling problem near Esplanade around 10 AM. Due to the technical glitch, trains were forced to operate at reduced speeds, leading to longer travel times and operational delays across the Blue Line.

The slow movement of Metro rakes led to increased gaps between consecutive trains. As a result, platforms witnessed growing crowds during rush hour, adding to commuter discomfort. Passengers across several stations experienced delays and congestion for a considerable period.

Metro officials stated that engineers were promptly deployed to address the issue. Repair work was carried out on priority, and services were gradually restored. Authorities have now confirmed that Metro operations are currently running as per schedule, with normal services resumed across the network.
