Train services on the Sealdah Main section were disrupted today, causing severe inconvenience for regular commuters. Several trains remained stranded at multiple stations, including Dumdum, Agarpara and Belgharia, leaving passengers confused and searching for alternative travel options.
Eastern Railway initially did not provide a clear explanation for the disruption. Public Relations Officer Diptimoy Dutta said he was unaware of the issue at first and that inquiries were being made to understand the situation.
According to the eyewitnesses, the Barrackpore–B.B.D. Bagh local suddenly halted at platform number four of Agarpara station. Despite the train remaining stationary for a long time, no announcement was made at the station, leaving passengers uncertain about the reason for the delay. Many commuters eventually got down from the train and began looking for other ways to reach their destinations.

Railway sources said down-line trains heading toward Sealdah usually operate through platforms two and four at Agarpara station. When the train stopped at platform four, several other trains were forced to halt behind it on the same line. Although services continued partially through platform two, the pressure of passengers increased significantly, making it difficult for many commuters to board trains.
The disruption also affected the up line. The Sealdah–Krishnanagar local reportedly stopped at platform three of Belgharia station, causing several trains behind it to remain stuck. Since down-line trains on the Sealdah Main section are usually crowded during peak hours, the disruption added to the difficulties faced by passengers.

According to railway sources, the problem occurred due to a malfunction of the home signal at the entrance of the up platform at Belgharia station. The issue was noticed around 10 AM, and the signal failure continued for several hours.
Railway engineers have reached the site, and repair work is currently underway. Eastern Railway’s Public Relations Officer Diptimoy Dutta said the matter is being investigated, though it remains unclear how long it will take for normal train services to resume.
